 DAB510 PROJECT 1:                             FOLIE DESIGN


                                                                                                                      Initial concepts and ideas.

our group had a brain storm session in which we toyed with various ideas about shape form and the spatial workings for our folie design.
though most of it were toying with physical masses such as foam core and styrofoam, others were drawn and sketched out as pictured below.




 After much discussion, we decided to  use simple geometric shapes that are put to get to form complex spaces. the shapes that were chosen were also influenced by the shape of the air raid shelters that were constructed along the cliff face and the space constraint of out folie brief.

After putting the various ideas that we had into an actual scaling up cad model, this was the resultant shape. the design was to have 3 spaces within the folie, each with its own type of materials that reflect that relationship and a way to experience the material in a unique way.

sound fins
sound fins constructed from slats of sonorous metals that can be either struck or strummed to produce a melody. 
the space represents the wharf area and is constructed of hard wood timber with the sound fins as the corrugated iron component. the sound produced is similar to rain hitting the metal roof but in a more melodic form.

the solid void element uses a frame form abstracted from the trusses of the story bridge and is constructed from steel. it uses voids to create a play of light within the space while offering users a protusion of shapes to interact with. these extrusions are constructed from asphalt material similar to the road surface of the story bridge.

cliff face element allows users to interact directly with the rock of the cliff face and also forces a sense of perceived danger by using a thick glass flooring.
