last and final entry

the library park urban development proposal is mainly geared towards providing an interesting and engaging self-learning environment for youths aged from 6 to 18.
the library park also seeks to create a social and recreational hub for the local community and new farm residents by integrating many lounge areas that allow users to enjoy the river and city views and encourage social interaction.

The design of the library park is inspired by the key elements within the HSW site namely the story bridge, the cliffs and the wharf area.
The bridge element is reflected by the linear rear building supported with the k truss glass facades similar to that of the bridge, this creates interesting patterns within the space as light passes through during different times in day.

the cliff element is represented by the main facade of the building providing comfortable shaded outdoor spaces that is organic in form and allows the best views of the surrounding. the tilt of the shading device allows greater sunlight penetration during the morning and winter periods and minimizes sun during the summer and glare during the sunset periods.

the final element represented in the green yard which is the main bridging element between the two buildings. The green yard provides a soothing green space within the building and functions as a method of entry from the outside to the inside of the building as well as between the front and the back of the  building. The green yard also creates functional space that creates a playing area for children as well as a picnic area for families and a relaxation spot of users passing through [cyclists or joggers]

main activities for social hub and within the green space are outdoor games, picnics, mini market place, sitting area to lounge, greenery soothes the eyes and lift spirits, good views of surrounding scenery, sheltered from excessive sun and rain but well lit.
audio booth allows users to sit back and enjoy music or audio material while people watching or enjoying views out.
children's corner feature a lot of padded areas and natural elements creates small pockets of privacy which is vital for children to learn

prelude to the final submission (cumulation of the weeks leading to the final week))

my project 3 design is modified from the previous assignment's design. however i have taken the feedback from my tutor to widen the spaces within especially the functioning spaces.
however in doing so, it reduces the central green space which is the key element and the main draw factor for my building.
another key problem that i had to address was the weak relation between my current design and my folie design.
my final solution was to widen the rear space as well as to use truss similar to that of the story bridge as a major structural component of the rear building. something similar to the john hancock building.
in order to maintain the green space in the middle of the building i chose to minimise to front building portion to an outdoor area which was sheltered and also fits into the folie component.

the steps that are created for the outdoor area are curved into an organic shape similar to the rock strata that is common in the brisbane cliff. the photos are my actual laser cut vectors that i printed out to experiment with.
below are some sketches and ideas that i initially had for the spaces in response to my tutor's feedback

my final model to help me visualise what i what for my building, i chose to create a new physical model as a way of experimenting and creating an interesting space that responds well to my folie and to the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces to keep with the library park theme
Integration of slopes instead of steps to give access for wheel chairs it also fits well with the organic aspect [the cliff element] for my building.
by removing the front facade that was initially designed, it gives greater access to the views of the river and the city which is better than the initial design.
for this project, i felt that space constraint was a major issue and i was more inclined to use elevators as a primary means for moving from level to level
i had located the young children's learning space at the bottom so as to allow more convenience for the young and their parents.

the green space in the middle is the key stone of the building and represents the wharf area. the green element bridges the separate areas [front and back] to create a single space, it also creates space where there is a certain level of intrigue as the slopes and general construct gives the space a sort of hideaway feel.
i wanted to create a library park where one can just rest and relax by the park and enjoy a picnic and a book. basically a hideaway environment for children to play around much like robin hood had the sherwood forest, the space i am trying to create is something similar.
the final product with the roof added on.
another interesting aspect is the play of light created by using the trusses for the facade, as such i decided to put the triangles in different directions in order to create shadows during different times in the day
generating small people to communicate the type of spaces and the uses
