IDEAS+INSPIRATIONS

                                                                                 EXEMPLARS
During my research for project 2, i have looked at several exemplar buildings to help give me ideas and perspective on what i would want to incorporate into my folie building that would enable it to be a enjoyable and effective learning space.

here are some of the exemplars that i enjoyed the most.

NANYANG TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY,  SINGAPORE

I felt that the incorporation of a nature element within the architecture was very suitable for my folie design as well as the use of natural lighting. through the use of greenery and natural lighting within an educational space it sufficient light and a sense of serenity that i find would be a very favourable factor within a learning space such as a library.

By adding green zones that are accessible by people, it also allows a place for socialisation and interaction between users, which would be fun for children and teens which would be the primary users within my folie building.

NYU DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY, USA

In this particular exemplar building by steven hole architects, the use of lighting within the space is what is most interesting and in my opinion what i feel would make for a interesting space for young adults within my folie building.

through the use of different materials (prismatic film on window occasionally able to separate light rays into its various components) and perforations, the play of light becomes evident within the space creating ever changing patterns of light and colours that delight to users within the space.

Ørestad High School, Copenhagen

What i enjoyed about this exemplar was the integration of private spaces and circulation spaces which i feel is important within a learning space. private spaces where children and teens can go to is important for self learning and can serve as a good space for discussions and reflection.

the flow between spaces seem natural and seamless

VANCOUVER LIBRARY SQUARE,  CANADA

This exemplar has a central courtyard like area which allows for people to relax and interact and also allows for a circulation space while providing good sky lighting.

The entrance of the  building naturally directs the flow of people to the courtyard like space which serves as a good space for socialising and interaction.

SKYLIGHT HOUSE ,  SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

the use of natural lighting while reducing the glare within the space as well as the materials provide a calm and productive environment within. this could be utilised in reading spaces within the folie building.

 SCULPTURAL PLAYGROUND,  GERMANY

The playground has a element that curves and undulates in a fashion has would be interesting to play in as well as visually stimulating. This would provide a good play space within the folie building.

Through the  exemplars we can use the concepts behind the designs and incorporate them into our own design to create a interesting and enjoyable learning environment for young adults,
